The Book is Better than the MovieI bought this book knowing that I would be watching the movie soon. I'm glad I read the book first as it contained a lot more to the love story of Henry and Clare compared to the movie version. This is the love story of Henry and Clare. Henry is a time traveller (and the author actually explains it so that it makes sense and seems normal!) and first meets Clare when she is 6 years old. This is a very thick book, which traces their lives together. The focus is on Clare and her encounters with Henry.
Sometimes it was difficult to know who was talking as the author had characters talking but no names next to the dialogue. Sometimes I had to look back to see who started the conversation and count the lines. Also, each section had a heading so you knew how old Henry was and how old Clare was at the time of each encounter. Each section was pretty short, so it was easy to put the book down and take a break. I didn't have to wade through any long chapters.
It was a good read, and I would recommend this book to others.
It was good.Every time I Google this book I see hundreds of raving reviews. I just don't feel it. It IS a good love story that involves time travel in a unique way but it's a little redundant, way to long and just lacking something. Halfway through I felt like "I get it he can travel in time already!!"
It's not a terrible book but it's not the best book I've read this year it's average. I seen it's being paired with The Kite Runner and to be honest I much preferred that.
I did really like all the music, as a huge fan of the Violent Femmes it was cool to see their songs throughout and I did like the cover.
A Must Read!Wonderful, wonderful story. I was hesitant at first to buy this book but after reading such great reviews about it, I finally did. And yes, it is definitely worth it. Will be on top of my favorite books of all time.
Great bookThis is one of the best books I have read for some time. It is beautifully crafted, well written and truly memorable. I have been telling all my friends about it as I want to share the experience. It is about love and longing, enforced separations and questions how much control any of us have over the path our lives take. More than anything it is a moving and powerful love story but with enough guts to keep male readers satisfied! It manages to balance tragedy and humour perfectly so even in the bleakest moments there is hope. The human condition prevails over everything that fate (or God if you prefer) can deliver. The characters of Henry and Clare are well developed and their flaws and failings make them believable. The story hops through time and space but never falters or drags. I found it hard to put this book down and days after finishing it I still found myself thinking it over. A stunning novel! Read it! I'd also recommend reading the mesmerising and highly evocative novel The Fates by Tino Georgiou.
